42: Danny Boy.

This one hardly needs any introduction from me, other than that I created this version using bass/jazz/12-string folk guitars, adding to the overall effect by using a set of nickel/steel finger/thumb picks and a multi-effect foot pedal.

I hope that you enjoy the result……

Best heard via headset or amped speakers with bass ……

38: Bridges of Love; not Walls…

{Please read/listen to the end, and share with as many people as you can.}…….

I believe that in our infinite variety, we are all one. We all share the one life….

Also.. I am increasingly of the mind that public ‘condemnation’ of acts of terrorism, and producing shows of judgemental (and even belligerent!) solidarity, not to mention acts of defiance, are not the way forward.

The more we ‘fight’ these negative powers, the stronger they become!

A “war on terror” will surely just perpetuate the aggression and negativity on all sides!?… as do ALL wars!?

I’m just about to place the 2 most recent additions to my music blog, which I feel point to the only path that can lead to true global peace.

‘Bridges’, not ‘walls’ , must surely be the root of the eventual solution…. but I’m not suggesting a stone version of either!!…. but bridges of love from our hearts, as opposed to the walls and barriers produced by hardened hearts.

“……You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one……” (Lennon)

One day.. the ‘world'(hearts and minds of humans) WILL be as one. We MUST continue to believe this, and act accordingly.. but only from the genuine love that unites us ALL.

….”Love one Another”,

Or… as Eckhart Tolle puts it: “To love is to recognize yourself in another”

My two musical offerings from my HomeSpun archive…. that I hope will reinforce these thoughts, we’re both made using…...and…plus..&

37: The Mountains of Mourne…

I lived in North Belfast for almost 7 years, by the slopes of the Cave Hill; and the view from my bedroom window was an unrestricted one over Belfast in the valley, right to the mountains of County Down. I well remember watching the changing weather patterns… more often than not carrying rain!… as the Mountains of Mourne changed hue, and alternately appeared and disappeared into the mist.

Below you will find a player and link to a version of the tune to the song, “The Mountains of Mourne” that I put together years ago, using bass-guitar, lead-guitar, (both with pick), and multi-effects pedal. I built it from five tracks, using an 8-track mixer.

First though.. here is Wikipedia’s information about the composer and the song, plus the lyrics; below which, you will find the ‘player’ to listen to my version of the tune…..

The lyrics to the song “The Mountains of Mourne” were written by Irish musician Percy French. It is normally sung to the traditional Irish folk tune Carrigdonn or Carrigdhoun [1] as it is sometimes spelt. This was the same tune used by Thomas Moore (1779–1852) for his song “Bendemeer’s Stream”.

The song is representative of French’s many works concerning the Irish diaspora. The Mourne Mountains of the title are located in County Down in Northern Ireland.
The song is a whimsical look at the styles, attitudes and fashions of late nineteenth-century London as seen from the point of view of an Irish labourer from a village near the Mountains of Mourne. It is written as if the singer is sending a message to his true love back home. The “sweep down to the sea” refrain was inspired by the view of the mountains from Skerries in north County Dublin.[2]

It contrasts the artificial attractions of the city with the more natural beauty of his homeland.”…..

The Lyrics….

“Oh Mary this London’s a wonderful sight

There’s people here working by day and by night

They don’t sow potatoes nor barley nor wheat

There’s gangs of them diggin’ for gold in the street

At least when I asked them that’s what I was told
So I took me a hand at this digging for gold

But for all that I’ve found there I might as well be

Where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea…

You remember old Peter O’Loughlin of course
He’s here now at the head of the force

I saw him today (while I) was crossing the strand

He stopped the whole line with a wave of his hand

And as we stood talking of the days that are gone
The whole population of London looked on

But for all his fine powers he’s wishful like me

To be where the dark Mournes sweep down to the sea…..

There’s beautiful girls here oh, never you mind
With beautiful shapes nature never designed

With lovely complexions all roses and cream

And O’Loughlin remarks with regards to the same

Of all these fine flowers you venture to sip
The color might all come away on your lip

So I’ll wait for the wild rose that’s waiting for me
Where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea……

Oh Mary, this London’s a wonderful sight………”

36:  Farewell Blues…

Although this one is entitled “Farewell Blues”, it is done in the Ragtime style, which renders it a happy tune, where the ‘fare-well’ is meant literally….. i.e. may everything be well with you…..

I played this mainly with the bass…

..with some…. jazz and lead guitars….

…with a bit of assistance from the multi-effects pedal….
